Points of Unity

For a Politically Independent and Nationwide Socialist Party

We seek to build DSA into a collective vehicle for working class politics and move towards acting like an independent political party with a distinctly socialist agenda. This means bringing NYC-DSA into full compliance with national decisions (like those passed at National Conventions), integrating chapter electoral, labor, and working group campaigns into national infrastructure, and centering a unifying political program in both our internal and external political work.

We fight to build a nationwide struggle for democratic socialism. This year's upset victories from Melat Kiros to Chris Rabb were won through a historic, national mobilization of members from coast to coast. DSA is building a socialist party that can win power across the country. World to Win struggles for an NYC-DSA that embraces its important role to play, by integrating our electoral campaigns into DSA's National Electoral Commission, building cooperative ties with national DSA and chapters across the country, and taking up the mantle of our national DSA program: Workers Deserve More.

For Principled, Integrated and Agitational Electoral Campaigns

We do not underestimate the importance of NYC-DSA’s electoral project. We believe we should run campaigns that aim to win while also pushing the boundaries of political consciousness and discourse in a socialist direction. This means taking principled stands that differentiate us from progressive Democrats and offering a socialist vision as an alternative to the political status quo. We also want our electoral program to build the party by integrating campaigns into other areas of work like labor, tenant, and anti-war organizing (and vice versa), creating robust pipelines for onboarding canvassers into other work between election cycles and opening up the Socialists in Office committee to broader levels of membership participation and awareness.

We fight for mass socialist electoral politics. We can only build a durable constituency for socialism when our candidates are unafraid to clearly express socialist positions, and take bold stances on issues like Palestinian liberation, mass incarceration, and public housing. NYC-DSA must take seriously our responsibility to fundamentally transform business as usual. World to Win seeks to expand on our chapter's electoral work by developing unified, programmatic messaging, setting the example of cross-endorsement and common action between our candidates, and centering the growth and development of DSA as an independent political bloc.

For an Internationalist & Abolitionist Horizon

We believe centering proletarian internationalism and abolition of the police state and carceral system are essential elements of any serious revolutionary project in the heart of empire. Anti-imperialism, abolition and establishing the democratic institutions necessary for working-class rule are inextricably bound together. A politics that neglects these issues in favor of a single-minded focus on “bread & butter” reforms cannot win over the multi-racial and multi-national working class or dismantle the systems that hold that class in bondage. We want our electeds to use their platforms to agitate against the imperial police state and organize the working class towards its overthrow.

We fight for internationalism and abolition. The working class is global and multinational: we cannot free ourselves if all of us are not free. As socialists in the belly of the beast, we oppose every repressive institution that keeps people in chains or under threat of bombs. We understand directly undermining the war machine and racist police as urgent tasks of the class struggle. World to Win commits itself to organizing powerful chapter priority campaigns like Break the Chain and Immigrant Justice Rapid Response, which can both raise consciousness and make a material difference in ending repression at home and war and genocide abroad.

For Embedding NYC-DSA in Independent Working Class and Community Organizations

We believe that in order for DSA to become a vehicle for the conquest of power by the multi-racial, multi-national working class, it needs to be embedded in the everyday life and struggles of that class to the fullest extent possible. This means continuing to build ties to organizations like labor and tenant unions and to community organizations and projects like mutual aid networks, community gardens, churches, mosques, synagogues and other expressions of working class social life. Rather than attempt to artificially impose our own priorities on these groups from above, we believe that meeting the class where it's at and joining in its struggles is the best way to build a durable, sustainable base for socialism and democratic self-emancipation.

We fight for an NYC-DSA embedded in the working class. We cannot win socialism without a working class organized in its many millions and a chapter whose political activity is woven deep into working-class life. World to Win struggles for an NYC-DSA that renews its commitment to rank-and-file labor organizing, both to organize the unorganized and to wage powerful campaigns to transform existing unions from the inside, and builds independent working-class institutions from the ground up; from tenant associations to NYC-DSA's branch-based Community Solidarity Committees.

For Chapter Democracy

We are committed to democratizing NYC-DSA by creating spaces for meaningful rank & file deliberation and decision-making. We fight to reform our chapter leadership structures, which concentrate decision-making power in the hands of a small minority of members, through implementing proportional representation. We defend freedom of criticism as the necessary condition of a robust democratic culture, and we reject rule or ruin tactics, the use of bureaucratic structures and mechanisms to interfere with member-led bodies on a partisan basis, and the creation of “cones of silence” that disempower rank & file members and hinder their full participation in chapter life.

We fight for a member-run NYC-DSA. Democracy is not a principle, but a live practice; DSA members, and the working class at large, are prepared to govern society through taking part in collective decision-making within democratic organizations. World to Win organizes for an NYC-DSA with proportionally-elected leadership that can represent DSA members in all our political diversity, transparency and member scrutiny around issues like the chapter budget and staffing, and deliberative meetings at all levels of the organization, where every member can become a protagonist that shapes the direction of our movement.
